The Washington Township Library Board of Trustees adopted the "Confidentiality of Library Records" policy in 2002 to protect the right to privacy of our patrons in accordance with NJ Statute 18A:73-43.2, Confidentiality of library users' records. Confidentiality extends to "information sought or received, materials consulted, borrowed, acquired," and includes database search records, interlibrary loan records, and other personally identifiable uses of library materials, facilities, or services.

Internet Use Policy:
The Washington Township Public Library provides access to the Internet in keeping with its role in providing equal access to information and resources to meet the educational, informational, and recreational needs of the community.
The Washington Township Public Library supports the American Library Association Bill of Rights, under which all library users are provided equal access to resources. The document “Library Bill of Rights in Cyberspace” contains guidelines that extend this tradition to the world of electronic information.
The Washington Township Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. The Internet may contain controversial or inappropriate material, as well as materials that are personally, professionally, and culturally enriching to individuals of all ages. The Library does not restrict access to or protect users from information that they may regard as offensive. Patrons use the Internet at their own discretion.
As with other library material, parents and guardians of minor children, not the Washington Township Public Library, are responsible for their children’s use of the Internet through the Library connection. While the Library staff may be available to help parents identify appropriate Internet resources for their children, the Library does not restrict access to any material.
Illegal activities or any other activities intended to disrupt network services or equipment are prohibited.
Adopted by: The Library Board of Trustees (Date July 22, 1997)

Wireless Internet (WiFi) Policy:
The Washington Township Public Library provides unfiltered wireless (WiFi) Internet connectivity as a service for patrons with wireless-enabled laptops.
You must know how to configure your own equipment. Library staff members cannot configure your laptop or network card or help you to establish a wireless network connection.
By choosing to use this free wireless service, you agree to abide by the Library’s Internet Use Policy, which prohibits offensive or illegal activity while using the Library’s Internet service. Copies of this policy are available at the public access computer stations.
It is the responsibility of the user to understand this Internet Use Policy and his/her obligation to refrain from viewing inappropriate web sites, spamming, or engaging in any illegal activities.
Use of the wireless network is at your own risk, and the Library is not responsible for any alterations or interference with a laptop’s configuration or operation or data files resulting from connection to the wireless network. In addition, the Library assumes no responsibility for damage, theft, or loss of any kind to a user’s equipment, software, data files, or other personal property brought into or used at the Library’s facilities.
Limitations
WiFi is less secure than a wired network. Signal strength may vary in the building. There is no printing capability. This service is not to be used as a permanent connection. The Library cannot guarantee that the service will be available at any specific time.
System Requirements
Your laptop must have a wireless network interface card (NIC), 802.11b standard or higher.
Patrons shall defend, indemnify, and hold the Washington Township Public Library and its officers, employees, and agents harmless against all claims, actions, and judgments based on or arising out of the patrons’ use of the Library’s wireless network.
[This policy is provisional until approved by the Library’s Board of Trustees.]
