Adult Summer Reading Program
June 24 – August 12, 2009
“Master the Art of Reading” this summer at the Library and explore the worlds of art, books, and more. Get in touch with your creative side!
The 2009 Adult Summer Reading Program offers programs, prizes, and special events. The adult program will run concurrently with the children’s program, “Be Creative @ Your Library." Get your whole family involved!
Registration begins on June 24. No minimum reading requirements! No artistic talent or previous knowledge required! All programs are free of charge.

Hello Golden Gate, Goodbye Russia
Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 11 a.m.
Author Olga Valcoff, a resident of Basking Ridge, will discuss her
book, Hello Golden Gate, Goodbye Russia -- an epic generational saga of a family that was forced to flee their mother country
and spent the rest of their lives looking for a place to call home. Hello Golden Gate is a factual record of Russian
refugees in the Far East from the early 1920s through World War II and the Chinese Communist takeover of China.
This program counts toward Adult Summer Reading Program prizes.

Computer Classes for the PC
Wednesdays, July 1 - 29, at 2 p.m.
Susan Clark, technology librarian, will be teaching a series of five computer classes at the library. Each will be about one hour long. The classes begin with Computer Basics and proceed through Word Processing, E-Mail, Internet Basics, and Internet Searching.
NO ONLINE SIGNUP. Please call the library to register.
Classes are limited in size. Priority given to Washington Township residents.
Mentoring Opportunity with Morris CountyChildren
Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 2:30 p.m.
A unique opportunity exists for anyone interested in volunteering their time as a mentor for the child of an incarcerated parent
from Morris County. The time required is to spend quality time with the child for an hour per week for a year. The
children range in age from 4 to 18 years. The program is made possible by NORWESCAP and the Amachi Mentoring Program. Matthew
Faecher, NORWESCAP staff member, and Joe Samuel, the AmeriCorps VISTA/Amachi representative for Warren and Hunterdon Counties, will
discuss this volunteer program in detail. Light refreshments will be served.

Color, Pattern, Texture, and Light: Finding the Perfect Combination to Express Your
Style
Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at 7 p.m.
This program counts toward Adult Summer Reading Program prizes!
Carrie Oesmann, principle and owner of Bailiwick Design LLC and member of the American Society of Interior Designers, will offer insight and tips into the design process and advice
on how to create a well-designed living space, based on her many years of experience in the field.
Next Stage Ensemble Touring Company Presents: "The Taming of the Shrew"
Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 2 p.m.

When Kate meets Petruchio, the sparks (and the furniture) fly. Shakespeare's wild and woolly comedy is the perfect match for
the fast-paced style of the Next Stage Ensemble, directed by stage combat specialist Doug West. This classic battle of the
sexes is also a heartfelt comedy in which apparent opposites discover just how much they have in common.
Recommended for ages 12 and up. Approximate running time: 1 hour.

Pastel Painting Demonstration
Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 7 p.m.
This program counts toward Adult Summer Reading Program prizes!
This pastel painting demonstration by Doris Schwint, free- flowing style artist, will consist of developing a pastel painting,
starting with an outline drawing. Doris will explain composition, color theory, contrast, textures, and various other
details. Pastel materials such as types of paper, types of pastels, and blending tools will be discussed. A question and
discussion period is included.

Lunch 'n' Learn: "Oh, My Aching Joints!"
Monday, July 27, 2009, 12 - 2 p.m.
Anyone, at any age, can be affected by arthritis. People living with the pain every day know just how hard it can be. Stephen Hunt, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, will discuss the facts and symptoms of arthritis, treatment options including joint replacement, and support resources available for those suffering from this condition.
A complimentary luncheon will be served. Seating is limited. You must register by calling the library at 908-876-3596 or by clicking on the Sign Up link below.
Washington Township residents receive priority seating.

Open Your Heart and Your Home: Foster Care and Adoption Informational
Seminar
Monday, July 27, 2009, 7 – 8 p.m.
Right now, there are thousands of New Jersey children who need the warmth and guidance of a family. Many parents are welcoming
these children into their homes to provide safety, stability, and love. These wonderful people are New Jersey’s foster
and adoptive families. Why not consider opening your heart and your home?
Please assist us in our mission to find these children homes. Speakers will present information and knowledge about the
Division of Youth and Family Services' foster and adoptive care program.

Verdict -- Family Concert in Rock Spring Park
Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 7 p.m.
Verdict plays a repetoire of reggae, soca and calypso music. Hits by Bob Marley, Arrow, Barron, UB-40, and Paul Simon are only a few of the songs they perform. This animated group will teach the audience Caribbean dances such as Butterfly and Dollar Wind. You are sure to hear some original music from their CD Irie, Irie, Irie. Bring a chair, relax, and enjoy!
