The Clique: Revenge of the Wannabes by Lisi Harrison

Summary: Alicia Rivera gets tired of following Massie Block so she decides to make her own clique and pretty committee. Massie couldn't be more shocked about this. When Alicia is asked to go to New York City because she won the OCD uniform design contest, Massie is even more surprised by Alicia's newfound independence. Massie does everything in her power to prevent Alicia from going, but in the end the whole clique ends up in New York City!

Genre: realistic fiction

Rank: 4/5

Would you recommend this book to a friend? yes

Review: I thought this was a good book but some of the parts got too intense over silly things. For example, Alicia and Massie got into a huge fight over an outfit they both wanted to wear to a fashion show. Also, the disagreement that occurred when Alicia wanted to start her own clique in the beginning of the book was also overdramatic. I think this book would be best for girls in middle school or the early years of high school because it talks about real life situations that they could relate to.

Review: I would recommend this book because it is interesting and it keeps you guessing on what will happen next. Five girls come together to try to expose one of the girls' cousins for boy stealing. The cousin is an interesting character because she not only messes up plans, but she also steals from the girls. It shows accurately what teenage girls go through and how they solve their problems. Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle

Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle

Summary: This story is about a privileged Southern girl and her realizations on her posh life. Post Wilderness Camp, Carly realizes that she does not want to fit the Monecure's suburban mold her entire Georgian town strives towards. Yet as her less enthusiastic friends and family inform her, by trying to be purposefully different, she is the same. Throughout the novel, Carly deals with the reality that people are not too keen on her new attitude towards life. A story of friends, family, and an average life.

Genre: realistic fiction

Rank: 3.5/5

Would you recommend this book to a friend? yes

Review: I would recommend this story because of all of the morals and values that Carly brings up. This novel is provocative yet still possesses the lightness of fiction. It was nice to be able to read about a teen who wants to change without becoming a total nutcase. I appreciated that the setting is among wealthy people who all conform to the same stereotype. I was a little disappointed with the resolution, but overall I liked the story. Give it a try!

Also, there was information about a movement for healthier lunches, and at the end of the book were websites and links that you could check out to make your school's lunches better. That is why this book ranked a 4.5, and why I would recommend this book to a friend. Overall, it was a funny and powerful book with a moral that you could learn from. When they get in the cave, William looks at the walls using a lantern to see. He finds all types of fossils in the walls. Then suddenly the lantern goes out and William and Wendy are lost in the cave. Luckily, the lantern goes back on and their vision is restored. They hear a "splish, splash" sound and follow it to find a lake. Finally, William and Wendy had found their way out of the cave just in time for a picnic with their family!

Review: I would not recommend this book to a friend because I hated the pictures. The pictures really did not have enough detail in them to convey the message of the story. In the beginning it said the whole family was there but in the picture it showed only the father, Wendy, and William. Where did Mother go? You only see her at the end of the book. And there were no interesting facts. I would rate this book at two because I did not like the pictures and it really did not explain what was going on in the story!
